An overdue safety exam isn’t apparent until an accident occurs, and by then, it’s already too late. This is the central problem in occupational health in Argentina: the regulations are clear about which exams to perform, but keeping track of when each exam expires – for each worker, for each client company – is something that almost no consulting office manages effectively with a spreadsheet.
What does the SRT regulation require?
The Superintendency of Occupational Risk (SRT), the agency that regulates occupational risk systems in Argentina under Law 24.557, requires three types of occupational medical examination:
| Type of exam | When is it done? | What are you evaluating? |
|---|---|---|
| Concerned | Before the worker’s arrival. | Fitness for the position and a solid state of health. |
| Newspaper | During the course of employment, frequently depending on the risk associated with the position. | Evolution of health status in relation to task-related risk factors |
| Upon discharge | Upon the conclusion of the employment relationship. | Worker’s health condition at the time of departure. |
The frequency of periodic examinations isn't the same for all positions. Jobs involving exposure to risk factors (such as noise, chemicals, physical exertion, etc.) require more frequent and closely monitored controls, while a purely administrative role with limited exposure will have a less frequent schedule. It’s the company’s responsibility, through its occupational health service, to determine the health surveillance program based on the risk map for each position.
Why deadlines are missed.
In a clinic or occupational health center serving multiple companies, the issue isn’t knowing which exam is needed; it’s the lack of a single place where they can see, for each employee of each company, when their last exam was and when the next one is due. With separate records for each company, the due dates often appear long after they’ve already passed, simply because no one was actively monitoring them.
The cost of missing a deadline isn’t just a theoretical fine – it’s a client company with an employee whose current medical exam has expired, creating complications with the ART coverage precisely when the company needs it most. For the service center, this also represents a trust issue: a company that discovers a missed deadline on their own won’t trust the center to “handle” their needs in the future.
The ART register, whether up-to-date or outdated.
The ART register – the list of employees covered by the company’s occupational risk insurance – faces a similar problem on a different scale: it changes with every new hire and departure. If the health and safety department doesn’t receive information about these changes on the same day, the register ends up showing employees who are not actually working for the company. Failing to update the register with employees who have left, or with new hires, are the two most common errors, and both stem from the fact that the register operates separately from the day-to-day operations.
How is it solved with a system, not just with more discipline.
The solution isn’t about asking someone to review the spreadsheet more frequently. It’s about taking a person’s payment schedule – pulling it out of their head – and putting it into a system that:
- It has… single record per worker...with a complete record of all tests, not just one line per company on a spreadsheet.
- Please let me know in advance. Regarding a periodic exam expiring, ensuring there’s enough time to schedule the appointment *before* it has already expired.
- Maintains it registered citizen list synchronized With each employee turnover—both hires and departures—reported by the client company.
- It gives to… / It provides to… client company, a private portal Where the state can see the status of its workers without having to call and ask, which also reduces the administrative burden on the center.
It’s precisely the approach of… Occupational Safety TrainingA unique job record for each employee, automatic alerts for expiration dates, and an ART (Workplace Accident Register) that is updated with every personnel movement, rather than a spreadsheet that someone has to remember to check.
What a system cannot replace.
No software provides the documentation to the ART on your behalf, nor does it replace professional judgment in determining the health monitoring program for each workplace. However, it *can* ensure that no expiration dates are missed by relying on the memory of a single person during a particularly busy month.
